Shining Mountain Chapter NSDAR was organized by Organizing Regent Mrs. Mary Adelia Caldwell in Billings on February 22, 1918. The city of Billings lies in the shadow of the Absaroka, Beartooth, Pryor, Big Horn and Bull Mountains. When explorers saw the mountains covered in snow they were inspired to name the region the Land of the Shining Mountains. This chapter has produced four state regents, one Vice President General, and one Honorary Lifetime Vice President General, Miss Marjorie Stevenson. The chapter regularly participates in naturalization ceremonies for new citizens and was the first Montana State Society Daughters of the American Revolution (MSSDAR) chapter to receive a NSDAR Special Projects Grant ($10,000.00) for the General Store of the Huntley Project Museum.
